Numberkey is an application that turns your iPhone into a numerical keypad pad. To make Numberkey work you need to install the $1.99 application on your iPhone and your MacBook.
Fire both applications up and you can start punching in numbers to your favorite spreadsheet app or figure out how much money you’ve lost over the past couple of months.
The lack of numerical keypads on notebook keyboards can be a real pain, prompting some users to buy bulky notebooks just to get those extra digits.
I downloaded the application and while it does work, it does not come close to replacing a real keypad and it’s nearly impossible to touch-type with Numberkey. It’s still a very cool iPhone application and well worth the $1.99 if you dislike entering numbers on your notebook’s keyboard.

There are about 10,300 retail outlets where you can buy Apple computers, but Steve Jobs really wants you to visit one of the company’s 250 stores to receive a superior experience.
Jobs has admitted that he conceived the companies chain of retail stores because authorized resellers weren’t presenting his well-designed products with the proper level of flair and customer support. The first store opened in May 2001, and now the chain extends across the U.S. and into seven other countries, including a store in Beijing that opened this past summer.
The stores serve a dual purpose, with sales of products being primary. But almost more key for the stores, they serve as a focal-point for Apple enthusiasts, with a schedule of classes and workshops, personalized training sessions, buying assistance, business consultation, and service at the Genius Bar.
This retail concept keeps the stores busy and buzzing. If you visit an Apple store, only some of the visitors are there to actually purchase merchandise. Many more are there to check out the latest products, participate in a group or individual training session, or attend a presentation or music event.
And if you look closer at the visitors, you’ll find that many ...

The eGo Helium drive from Iomega really loves your MacBook Air and would like to respectfully ask for its hand in marriage.
You see, the two were virtually cut from the same cloth and share an uncanny amount of similarities. From their subtle gray chassis (off topic: what'...
Yesterday I posted a photo of what my desk looks like after doing some organizing and it got me wondering what other mobile tech bloggers had on their desks. I emailed a few bloggers and some of them emailed or posted pics of their desks and gear.
I think it’s interesting to see what tech bloggers actually end up using after playing with and writing about so many tech products.
I’m not alone in using more than one computer at a time and as you can see many of us bloggers run multiple operating systems simultaneously. Macs are pretty prominent in tech bloggers’ bag of tools, but Ewdison from Slashgear takes the cake with a total of five Macs in his office.

Here’s what my desk looks like right now. That’s a Lenovo ThinkPad W700 on the left, a new MacBook Pro, an IdeaPad S10 and an HP Pavilion tx2000z on the right. Click here for a full description of my setup.

Here are some pics of two MacBook Nano netbooks, which started life as a pair of MSI Winds. An Apple fanboy and his son applied a couple of stickers, stamped “MacBook Nano” on the bezel and installed OSX Leopard to complete the transformation.
They went a little overboard by putting Apple logos on every little accessory they have, but the “MacBook Nano” would probably fool the majority of non-techies and pass as an official Apple product.

I’ve had my share of ‘bad Apples,’ but none was nearly as bad as the MacBook Pro I bought four months ago. As I wrote back in March, Apple products have something against me- maybe because they have to share my attention and desk-space with numerous PC notebooks. That’s why I wasn’t completely surprised when my MacBook Pro’s display did a great Zebra impersonation today. I was completely surprised by the treatment I got at the Apple Store and had one of the best customer service experiences I’ve had in a long time.
I bought the $2,499 2.5GHz MacBook Pro less than four months ago. Things started off okay, but it crashed way too often, overheated several times (100-degrees Celsius) and the display quickly developed little clusters of grey dots. Apple replaced the entire display assembly, but it didn’t fit quire right and the magnet that actuates the sleep/wake function was missing. Another new display assembly was installed and I was relatively happy until today.
I was at a Peet’s Coffee & Tea shop in Silicon Valley editing some videos when the display suddenly grew zebra stripes. I restarted the MacBook Pro and the ...

Hard Graft's "Held" MacBook case
(Credit: Hard Graft)While everyone else is rushing out to their local Apple store to buy a mass-produced, cookie cutter case for their new MacBooks and Pros, try to resist the urge and instead look around for something a bit more unique, like the newest "Held" MacBook cases from Hard Graft.
Although they're definitely gender neutral, I personally think this case looks like it was pulled directly off the set of a 1960s James Bond flick. It's actually designed to mimic the look of a leather shoulder holster pressed against a fine wool suit; the entire sleeve is wrapped in a thick heather gray felt with ivory herringbone elastic straps that keep your laptop safe and secure. Of course, all the Hard Graft distinctions are in place as well, including their signature external pocket made from dyed European cow leather and matching pull tab inside.

If you haven’t heard, Apple is now selling most of their Mac line and even their iPhones now at your local Best Buy. Recently I made my way into one of the largest Best Buy stores in the local area to find one of the nice new Apple product displays. If you like visiting the Apple stores you will fell almost at home when you see the large chunk of the store adorned with a large black wall and a glowing Apple logo. They even have a real Apple sales representative there to assist you.
One thing led to another and we talked about Apple warranties and how Best Buy’s new relationship with them factors in. The rep. said that Best Buy actually offers coverage for not only the usual defective product or hardware failure, but also for accidental damage. As an example he mentioned at least one customer bringing in their Mac notebook after spilling coffee on the keyboard. Being impossible to repair, the customer received a new notebook since they were covered under the extended warranty.
When asked if they send the product out to Apple or if they service it inhouse (at the Best Buy store) he said that “some” of the ...
With only days left until the we go to the polls the mud slinging between Barack Obama and John McCain has gotten quite hot and heavy. Personally I think things seem much more distasteful and desperate from one side of the fence than the other, but thats not for this discussion. One thing is for sure, when politicians get nasty with each other they run the risk of turning away even their own supporters if they cross the line.
This brings us to discuss the two most recent ads produced by Apple as they try to hit Microsoft in the soft spot know as Vista. The ads are the latest in the series of “I’m a Mac…” ads that continuously take a stab at Microsoft and their poorly received Vista operating system.
The two new ads specifically target the fact that Microsoft has spent a great deal of money for a new a number of new ads campaigns. The first called “Mojave Experiment” in which hidden cameras were used to capture reactions from every day PC users who were using Vista for the first time, but thought it was a yet to be released operating system from Microsoft. The goal of the ads were to prove that the poor stigma behind Vista is ...
