The Apple MacBook Air is a seminal computer. There I said it. I'm not going to pretend that my opinion is the final word (or anything close to it) but I will weigh in by saying it's a ground-breaking product. After using it for about two months, here'...

There's are a lot of reasons to pick another laptop over the MacBook Air -- especially if you're into little things like "useful ports" -- but the comparison to non-Apple hardware isn't even relevant unless you're willing to switch to OS X, right? Just Works, AppleThe Apple gods must have it out for me and chanting ‘It Just Works’ isn’t helping. Apple and its fanboys do their best to convince the world that Apple products are blessed by the hand of god Jobs, but its hard to buy the hype after our six-day old iMac died.

My experience with Apple products over the past few weeks is just ridiculous. In fact, I’ve come to the conclusion that my Apple products are committing digital mutiny. Here’s a summary of all the Apple-related problems I’ve dealt with in the past three weeks. Either I have the worst luck ever…or deep breath here…. Apple product aren’t perfect and don’t ‘Just Work’.

I own more than my fair share of Apple products, but I’m really starting to lose faith. I like Apple products, but I don’t love Apple products like so many others do. I’m not willing to give crappy products or experience a break because they come from a ‘cool’ company.

I ran across the ‘It Just Works’ page on Apple’s web site today and just started laughing.

MacBook Pro Explosion Fire FlameAn Apple MacBook Pro user was reading one of his favorite web sites when he heard a load popping noise, followed by sparks and flames shooting out of the back of the computer.

The exploding MacBook Pro torched the owner’s desk and caused some minor burns on his hands when he extinguished the flames. The owner called Apple Europe and after speaking to several people he was told Apple would replace his MacBook Pro with a new one.

There’s no word on the exact cause of the problem, but there’s no ‘good’ reason for this to happen on a computer that’s been in use for less than a year. Unlike previous exploding laptops, there’s no sign of battery malfunction on this particular MacBook Pro.

Just before I heard about this post I was complaining to a friend that my MacBook Pro hit 81-degrees Celcius while exporting a video in iMovie ‘08. Guess I don’t have that much to complain about…

Amazon.com is discounting the 2.2GHz MacBook Pro by $300 and offering a $150 rebate, bringing the net price down to $1,544.

The 2.2GHz MacBook Pro comes with a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard drive. It has a 128MB NVIDIA graphics card and a 15.4-inch LED display.

These MacBook Pro’s aren’t the latest models (which are available at the Apple Store), but they are an excellent choice for those on a budget that want to step up to a MacBook Pro from a smaller MacBook. The 2.2GHz MacBook Pro will easily outperform any of the current-generation 13.3-inch MacBooks, especially in the graphics performance.

Amazon.com isn’t selling the new MacBook Pros, but should be shortly and will probably pull this deal down any day. Head over to Amazon.com to take advantage of this offer soon.
