Apple’s approach to enter the sub-notebook market, the Macbook Air, is a great competitor to existing products. However, is it really worth the lack of superdrive, ethernet, and other standard features?

Its petite size, light weight and silvery skin made the MacBook Air this year's must-have laptop. However, amid all the hoopla and hype, Lenovo has quietly introduced its ThinkPad X300, a travel-friendly notebook that may not be as seductively thin, but provides more of the creature comforts ...

I was pleasantly surprised when FedEx dropped off a big box with a ThinkPad X300 today. It looks better in person than it does online and it feels like a real ThinkPad. It feels solid and has all of the little details ThinkPad users are accustomed to.
This thing is so thin it’s hard to believe there’s a DVD burner inside of it. It’s very light and well balanced, making it very easy to carry around and use on my lap.
I can’t help but compare the X300 to the MacBook Air because it currently holds the title of world’s thinnest notebook. I canceled my MacBook Air order after realizing I’d been seduced by its good looks rather than its functionality, or rather lack thereof. In its current state the MacBook Air is not the ideal solution for a mobile professional who needs long battery life and the ability to connect to the Internet wherever they are.
Its only ports are a single USB port, a micro-DVI port and a headphone jack.
The ThinkPad X300 was designed specifically for the mobile professional and it’s obvious that Lenovo understands what road warriors need. The X300 has ...

Apple updated its MacBook and MacBook Pro lines with Intel’s latest processors and higher capacity hard drives. The MacBook Pros now feature a Multi-Touch trackpad and NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with up to 512MB of video memory. The 17-inch MacBook Pro can be ordered with a LED display for the first time.
Apple will continue to offer three MacBook, two 15.4-inch MacBook Pros and one 17-inch MacBook Pro retail configurations. All three notebooks can be customized at Apple’s online store.
If you’re considering switching from a Windows-based notebook to a MacBook for the first time remember that Apple’s a luxury brand and there is no budget MacBook. You may also miss some features which are standard on many PC notebooks that cost much less. None of the new MacBooks or MacBook Pros come with built-in card readers, docking ports, extended battery options or a remote control for example.

The price of the entry-level white MacBook remains $1,099, but users will now get an improved 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a 120GB hard drive. The previous model had a 80GB hard drive. Unfortunately, this is the only Apple notebook that comes ...

I plugged in my MacBook Pro overnight to charge and was surprised to find the battery still empty when I woke up. The battery meter had an X over it and a message that said no battery was connected. I really need at least two batteries while traveling and now I’m going to hunt a spare one down in Las Vegas.
I was going to stop by the Apple Store in San Francisco on my way out of town, but I needed to be at the airport before the store opened. I called Apple and got some MAJOR attitude from the first rep I talked to. She asked for my name and phone number so she could verify my MacBook Pro and battery were still under warranty. She said she couldn’t find any record of me purchasing a MacBook Pro. I suggested she search by my email address, but she said it would just show her the same thing. She insisted the only Apple product I own is an iPhone. I started to ask to speak to another rep or her manager, but she rudely hung up the phone before I could finish.
I called back and spoke to another Apple ...

I’m packing my gadget bag for a short trip to Las Vegas to meet with some Sony product people and execs. One gadget I wish I could bring on this trip is the Mophie Juice Pack I ordered all the way back on December 4.
One of my least-favorite features of the iPhone is the battery is sealed inside and I can’t swap it out. Keeping it charged while traveling is especially challenging and I’ve given up watching movies on it because I’m paranoid I’ll drain the battery and not be able to make a call. The Mophie Juice Pack is an extended battery pack that doubles the iPhone’s runtime.
I was really excited to get a Juice Pack, but my experience with mophie has left a sour taste in my mouth and I doubt I’ll be ordering anything directly from the company again.
To start with, mophie didn’t even acknowledge my order for a week. Mophie had promised delivery by Christmas, but sent out an email on 12/4 alerting customers that they’d partnered with Apple to make the Juice Pack ‘Works With iPhone’ certified. They estimated a January delivery date.
I spoke with some mophie reps at CES ...
