ASUS released the official specs of the Eee PC 900. The new sub-compact notebook features an 8.9-inch display and weighs in at less than 1kg (2.2 pounds).

The most noticeable improvement on compared to previous Eee PC notebooks is the larger display, which has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. The Eee PC notebooks with 7-inch displays only have a resolution of 800×480, which means users have to scroll horizontally to view wider web sites and documents.

Users can opt for either a Windows XP or Linux operating system. The Windows version will come with 12GB of storage capacity, while the Linux version will come with 20GB. The Eee PC 900 has a 1.3MP web cam and 1GB of RAM.

The Eee PC 900 is expected to start shipping in May and will cost approximately $600. It will be available from Best Buy, TigerDirect and other major online retailers.

The Asus Eee PC 4G is now available with Windows XP for $399 from Best Buy. Built for children, the 7-inch Eee PC 4G comes with a 7-inch display, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of flash storage and a 900MHz Intel Celeron M processor.

Asus has gained a lot of attention with its Eee PC line of mini notebooks and adding XP to the mix will only widen the Eee PC’s appeal. The Asus Eee PC line was previously available only with Linux, which many mainstream consumers shun.

The Windows version of the Asus Eee PC 4G will only be available in white and black. Best Buy is selling it online only for now.

ASUS has created a huge wave in the sub-notebook & portable Internet device markets with their Eee PC. Sub-notebooks are normally wonderfully exotic looking hardware for delightfully high prices. The MacBook air is a great example - it looks like a killer machine until one looks at the combination of the lackluster specs and a price that makes even the most enthusiastic Mac fan blush. As for portable Internet devices, the Nokia N series is the first
