Lenovo’s going after U.S. consumers for the first time with the Lenovo Y410, a 14.1-inch widescreen notebook that’s available through retailers like Office Depot and Staples. The Y410 starts at $699 and includeds Veriface (facial recognition security), Dolby Home Theater sound, an integrated sub-woofer and a media shuffle key. I like that Lenovo’s jumping into the consumer market, but wish the company would do more than just dip its toes in the water. The company didn’t even bother to send out a press release and won’t sell the Y410 series on its own web site. The Staples version of the Y410 is available for $699 and comes with an Intel T5450 Core 2 Duo processor (1.66GHz), 1GB of memory, 160GB hard drive and dual-layer DVD burner. Office Depot’s selling a version of the U410 with 2GB of memory and costs $679 after a $229 rebate. Both ship with Windows Vista Home Premium. Veriface uses the Y410’s 1.3MP webcam to make sure an authorized user is at the computer when logging on.
