The MacBook Air’s stirred up some interesting discussion about what’s expected of an ultraportable notebook. Lenovo’s answer is the ThinkPad X300 series, which features a 64GB solid state drive, three USB ports, a DVD burner. Not bad for a 2.5 pound package.
Pound for pound, the ThinkPad x300 has a lot more features than the MacBook Air and is up to half a pound lighter, depending on configuration. The ThinkPad X300 series hasn’t been announced yet, but our friends over at Gizmodo got their hands on the specs and details early. I haven’t confirmed the details with Lenovo, but this presentation may be a little out of date (notice the Cingular reference). The X300 will have a range of wireless options, including Verizon EVDO Rev. A and HSDPA from AT&T.
One thing Lenovo’s definitely got right with the X300 is a removable primary battery and an optional secondary battery that can be swapped for the optical drive. Each 3-cell battery is good for four hours of runtime, for eight total. it’s also good to see the X300 has three USB ports, one of which can be used for a USB port replicator.
The Lenovo X300 series looks like ...

Lenovo 3000 C100 Review at Pocket-lint Pocket Lint reviews the Lenovo 3000 C100 and writes - “Yes, compromises have been made in the choice of processor but this helps keep the price so low, it’s hard not to be impressed. What really stands out about the Lenovo 3000 C100 is the build quality and the battery life, neither of which we were expecting in a machine costing so little. If you can live with the basic performance, then you have yourself one bargain notebook.” Read more reviews of

Lenovo’s introduced the IdeaPad notebook series at CES 2008. I talked to Craig Merrigan, Lenovo’s VP of consumer marketing, about the new line of consumer notebooks. The company is very late to the consumer notebook table, and faces several challenges.
Merrigan says Lenovo’s not going to “hose the world down with money to buy consideration.” Instead he hopes the products will wow its first customers enough to build some word of mouth buzz. Check out the interview below.

Getting a jump on the product-launch blitz that is CES 2008, Lenovo has announced a whole new brand of consumer-oriented laptops and desktops. Called IdeaPad and IdeaCentre, the lines are intended to complement the company's flagship business-oriented ThinkPad and ThinkCentre lines. While today's announcement does not include any specifics on desktop models, we learned plenty about the new IdeaPad laptops.
The first full line of entertainment-oriented Lenovo laptops to hit the United States (we saw one consumer model, the Lenovo 3000 Y410, sneak into the States last fall), IdeaPads include such welcome design touches as textured lid finishes and a sleek "frameless" screen that's ergonomically situated a bit farther away from the keyboard than most laptops. Also key to the IdeaPad look are touch-sensitive media controls above the keyboard and a bright orange button, called the Shuttle Key, which can be used on its own to control volume or in combination with the touch controls for additional functionality (somewhat like a Fn key). There's Front Row-like media software, called Shuttle Center, and Dolby Home Theater sound. Every IdeaPad ...

Apparently there’s not that much demand for Lenovo’s ThinkPad Reserve, the leather-bound X Series ThinkPad with a limited production run of only 5,000 units. Earlier this year the ThinkPad Reserve got a fancy web site and Lenovo promised three years of 24/7 support for the princely sum of $5,000. But if you’re willing to forgo the ‘Executive-class service’ you can pick one up for the bargain basement price of $3,000.
Obviously Lenovo can’t find 5,000 people around the globe to shell out $5,000 for the ThinkPad Reserve, which is no surprise considering you can configure an X61s with identical specs (but without leather wrap and support) for just $2,178 on Lenovo’s online store. Seasonal discounts bring the price down to just $1,633.

If you really must have the ThinkPad reserve, $3,000 isn’t that bad of a price to stand out in a sea of black ThinkPads and get that ‘wow that guy must be rich’ look.
I’d be seriously pissed if I’d shelled out $5,000 for a ThinkPad Reserve before this price drop. If you’re going to make a ‘reserve’ anything you should keep it exclusive. I don’t ...

Lenovo’s going after U.S. consumers for the first time with the Lenovo Y410, a 14.1-inch widescreen notebook that’s available through retailers like Office Depot and Staples. The Y410 starts at $699 and includeds Veriface (facial recognition security), Dolby Home Theater sound, an integrated sub-woofer and a media shuffle key.
I like that Lenovo’s jumping into the consumer market, but wish the company would do more than just dip its toes in the water. The company didn’t even bother to send out a press release and won’t sell the Y410 series on its own web site.
The
Staples version of the Y410 is available for $699 and comes with an Intel T5450 Core 2 Duo processor (1.66GHz), 1GB of memory, 160GB hard drive and dual-layer DVD burner. Office Depot’s selling a version of the U410 with 2GB of memory and costs
$679 after a $229 rebate. Both ship with Windows Vista Home Premium.
Veriface uses the Y410’s 1.3MP webcam to make sure an authorized user is at the computer when logging on. I’m not sure if I trust this scheme- what’s to stop someone from holding up a photo of the computer’s owner in front of the webcam ...
