LAPTOP Magazine has publised one of the first reviews of the latest 13.3-inch model in Toshiba’s Satellite line, the Toshiba Satellite U405.

The Toshiba Satellite L350 series notebook is a new addition to the 17" desktop replacement lineup from Toshiba. For a starting price of $749, Toshiba gives customers a TruBrite screen, webcam, integrated ATI Radeon graphics, a dual core AMD processor, and a DVD SuperMulti drive. This notebook is aimed at consumers who want a bit more notebook out of a budget price range, and seems to hit the mark perfectly. Toshiba today updated their entire Satellite notebook lineup in one fell swoop. New designs, processors and innovative features enter the mix with these attractive looking and reasonably priced consumer notebooks.

Someone at Toshiba has taken PR 101, where you learn that two headlines are better than one and that a trickle of information is often better than a single splash (unless you're Apple). Thus the handful of press releases that hit the wires this morning, which provide further details of the new Satellite line-up the company announced last week.

Last week's announcement focused on the new Satellite look (which Toshiba describes as "gray pinstripes set upon a field of black" and my colleague Dan Ackerman describes as "a distinct metallic sheen") and the new Sleep and Charge feature, which lets you charge USB devices even if the laptop is powered off. Toshiba’s latest line of Satellite notebooks will charge mobile devices via their ‘Sleep-and-Charge’ USB ports, whether the notebooks are powered on, off, sleep or hibernate mode.

The recently announced Satellite U400, Satellite M300, Satellite A300 and Satellite P300 notebooks will come with Sleep-and-Charge USB ports.

This is a great feature for anyone that struggles to keep their mobile devices charged. I’ve been in the unfortunate situation waking up with a dead mobile phone and digital camera while on vacation because I’d attempted to charge them by plugging them into my powered-down notebook.

Toshiba goes a little overboard by calling Sleep-and-Charge ‘innovative,’ but it’s a feature that will come in handy. I don’t think it’s an important enough feature to influence consumer’s buying decisions, but Sleep-and-Charge is a nice bonus for Toshiba customers.
