Solid state disks (SSDs) are a flash-based memory storage device that carries an insane price premium in the current market. They will usually cost $600 to $1,000 as an upgrade, making them outside the price range of many consumers. A new cheaper (slightly slower) option is available thanks to low-cost, high-capacity flash cards. This option is using a cheap compact flash to SATA adapter, and purchasing a moderately fast memory card that would fill your storage needs. How fast can a $100 SSD be? Let's take a look.

It's not easy to find a laptop with great built-in speakers. Even worse, it's next to impossible to bring a great external speaker set with you when you travel. Of course, that was before Parrot released the Parrot Party Bluetooth Speakers. This wireless 2.0 speaker set promises to give you an amazing listening experience without the need for audio cables or AC power adapters. But is the Parrot Party really as good as it sounds? Let's find out.

ThermalTake ixoftI have owned just about every laptop under the sun and I have yet to find one that didn’t burn the flesh off of my legs when I tried to use it as a true LAPTOP… that is until now. I can finally use my sofa to work on and not just for naps or the occasional amorous evening thanks to the Thermaltake iXoft notebook cooling pad.

After a couple of evenings with both notebook and iXoft on my lap, the difference is most definitely noticeable. Although of course having a bulky object in your lap means your legs will never get anything but warm, the effect of the heat being radiated from the notebook onto your lap is basically removed entirely - You simply don’t feel that direct heat any more.

The iXoft has an odd name its technology is odder. I’m no scientist, but it appears that the concept behind the use of this material is that sodium sulphate decahydrate crystals (Say that 3 times fast, I dare you) decompose at a relatively low temperature (33 degrees Celsius according to a quick Google) into a salt, which I would assume then gives it a great ...

Lapworks Attache Notebook StandLapWorks announced the Attache and Envoy notebook stands, complete with dual fans and a 4-port USB hub. The two stands are similar, except the Attache has an aluminum skin to help dissipate heat.

The LapWorks Attache and Envoy stands can be adjusted to proper viewing height to improve comfort and posture while you’re using your notebook.

These stands don’t look as stylish as other notebook stands, but they do look very sturdy. The Attache is $69 and the Envoy is $49.

Check out the video of Lapwork’s Jose Calero showing off his new products below.

Incase 2-in-1 Car and Wall chargerIncase’s new 2-in-1 Wall and Car Charger can be used to charge your iPod or iPhone in your car in any standard electrical socket. The AC/DC compatible charger can take almost any voltage you can throw at it.

The two wall-socket prongs hide away in the charger and flip up when you need them.

One thing I really like about the Incase 2-in-1 is its long cable. A t five feet, it’s long enough to reach the back seat of your car. This should make it much easier to talk on your iPhone while charging it compared to using the stock iPhone AC adapter, which is less than three feet long.

The Incase 2-in-1 charger is $39.95 direct from Incase and should hit retailers soon.

The ever-growing world of ultraportable laptops brings mobile convenience at the cost of some features. We all want a smaller notebook computer for travel, but sometimes that means we can't have a built-in CD/DVD drive. Plextor comes to the rescue with the PX-608CU external drive. This USB-powered drive eliminates the need to carry another bulky AC adapter ... and might just be the perfect accessory for your new ultraportable laptop.
